The fire-brigade is regarded as an emergency service that provides assistance at traffic accidents and chemical spills, floods, conflagrations and all conceivable catastrophes. The Schlingmann HLF 20/16 (Emergency and Fire-Fighting Fleet Vehicle) based on a "Daimler Chrysler MB Atego 1529 AF" is a vehicle which, due to its versatility and extensive equipment, is usually the first to attend at fires and also traffic accidents or other catastrophes and therefore meets the current job specifications. The water tank of the HLF 20/16 has a capacity of 2,400 litres, with an additional 140 litre foam tank under the roof. For the large water tank and for fire extinguishing capability it has a powerful pump that can deliver 2,000 litres of water per minute at an output pressure of 10 bar. The 279 bhp (205 kW) engine and all-wheel drive enable the crew of driver and 8 other firemen to arrive quickly and safely at the scene. Whether it is a house fire, a traffic accident or a cat up a tree, the HLF 20/16 is equipped for all eventualities, as in additional to the normal supply of hoses and quick acting devices it carries technical life-saving appliances as standard. On the roof there are as standard ladders and a lighting mast that rotates and extends. To the rear is a towed carriage with hose reels for up to 8 B hoses.
